Department of General Services
The mission of the Department of General Services is to build, maintain, and sustain the District of Columbia’s real estate portfolio, which includes more than 157 million square feet of land and 35.7 million square feet of state-of-the-art facilities in Washington, DC. This work allows the agency to foster economic viability, environmental stewardship, and equity across all eight (8) wards.

DGS is a District of Columbia government agency comprised of more than 700 skilled employees working dynamically through six divisions to create new, and manage existing, District-owned properties. Our people hold expertise in the areas of architecture, design, and construction, building management and maintenance, real estate management, and security at more than 840 real properties across the city. We do this through the following divisions:
